Rohde Nielsen A/S assists the port of Hundested in transforming water into growth
The Danish ports are in a process of optimism and growth. One of them is Hundested in northern Zealand, where Rhode Nielsen A/S is engaged in expanding the harbor creating new opportunities for development. The job is being carried out by the dredger SIF R, specializing in this kind of operation.
The crew onboard the SIF R is specially trained for the dredging operation, which requires combined effort in navigation and handling of the powerful pumps. Sand is loaded from a specific area outside the port and pumped into the sealed off space, which is to be filled up employing the rainbow method. The sand is with great force being pumped into the basin in a perfect ray of sand resembling a rainbow. A wall of instruments onboard the vessel is measuring every step of the process, presenting the captain and the machinist with all sorts of technical and navigational details. Enough for them to perform close to the goals, but still leaving the precision to the captain’s or the navigator’s experienced personal touch.
Dredging is Life
It takes a special “stuff” to be a skilled member of a dredging crew, but once a man has joined the family of professionals, it is often for good. The job is challenging every day and calls for both individual performance and team work. Thus Rohde Nielsen A/S takes special interest in educating the company’s own people. Extra crew is brought onboard for the purpose of training, and management is generally known to give space for personal responsibility to the many ambitious people onboard the vessels and to care about the well-being of all.
Environmental performance
On the other hand the expectations are high. Rohde Nielsen A/S vessels are not only expected to do the job in a professional way. Costumer’s satisfaction is a high priority and the same goes for the environmental performance. Dredging is a highly regulated business and the company is working concentrated to meet the demands – and surplus them where possible. In Hundested the project is progressing, and the demand for dredging in general is expected to rise both in Denmark and worldwide. The discussions of precautions meeting climate changes and rising sea-levels is not making the interest in dredging less actual.
