Rohde Nielsen A/S has acquired an oil- and gas-related contract in Germany. The contract is linked to the “Nord Stream” project. This project encompasses the construction of two 1,220-kilometer gas pipelines from Russia to Northern Germany through the Baltic Sea.

The landfall of the double pipeline requires the dredging of a 27-kilometer trench for the pipes, a pipe-pull over a distance of one kilometre and the backfilling of the dredged trench. A 750-meter cofferdam will be constructed on the landfall to protect the pipeline trenches in the surfzone. The project is under execution in a 50/50 partnership with Boskalis Offshore B.V. and will be completed in 2010.

The project will engage a range of vessels of the Rohde Nielsen fleet: eco bucket ladder dredgers Ajax R and Frigg R, large backhoe dredger Mjølner R, a range of self propelled barges including Hugin R and Munin R, auxialliary equipment such as Vidar R and Sleipner R, shallow draft trailing suction hopper dredgers Trud R, Magni R, Sif R and Modi R.
